House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

When I stumbled onto hookedonhouses.net, I almost screamed "MY PEOPLE!" I knew I was home when I took the "Are you hooked on houses?" test.
If you also pass with flying colors, please join me as I share my HOUSE thoughts, HOUSE opinions, HOUSE loves, HOUSE lusts and HOUSE rants!

Are you Hooked on Houses? Give yourself a point for each of the following statements that you agree with:
  • If there’s a “For Sale” sign in my neighbor’s yard, I can tell you how much they’re asking for their house–and whether it’s worth it.
  • I have a habit of checking the real estate listings online, even though I’m not planning to move.
  • I think the best time to take a walk is at dusk–after people have started turning on their lights, but before they have closed their blinds!
  • I’ve been known to visit Open Houses and model homes, just for fun.
  • I will stop to take a photo of a beautiful house if I have a camera with me.
  • When I visit someone’s home, I immediately start looking around to see what changes they’ve made since the last time I was there.
  • I get upset when I see a beautiful old home that looks neglected and unloved, and I fantasize about “rescuing” it.
  • I would go to a neighbor’s party just to get a look inside their house.
  • I have considered becoming a real estate agent, or have been told I should be one.
  • I’ve been known to check out the local house listings when I’m on vacation to see how much it would cost to live there.
  • If I drive through a pretty neighborhood, I slow to a crawl so I don’t miss anything.
  • I’m always redecorating my house. It’s never “finished.”
  • There are certain movies I have watched repeatedly because of the houses featured in them.

  3. This will be fun, Kerry! Much to my (p.o.) husband's chagrin, there is no big old house that doesn't call my name (especially the abandoned, falling-down sort that have been left as shrines to family memories). He won't even walk with me at dusk anymore! "Slow down... I didn't get enough time to look!"

  6. I can add one more to this list. We used to look at model homes and open houses so much on weekends that our 7 year old son started asking every Saturday morning, "Are we trying out houses today?" lol In defense, we were housing hunting at the time and moved that summer, but still...we were enjoying the process a little too much, I think. ;)

  9. I hope you see this comment (it's a bit late, I know). I read the test questions to my husband--he "accused" me of being the person behind this blog (but it's not, because I'm not as clever as you). But I DID get a point for each one--perfect score! We out to start a "hooked" society or something. I'm your newest Linky follower--with daily updates, no less! What can I say? You make me laugh. Stop by and visit, but I'm afraid my blog won't be very exciting for you--it's pretty tame by comparison LOL.

  10. Me too! Me too! My best friend and I send as many "house" e-mails as we do visiting and info-sharing e-mails. I just informed her that we aren't the only ones out there. Yea! I wanna be a realtor, too! My husband usually just humors me - at my request, of course. I scored a 10.

You, Karen & I should get together for coffee or lunch sometime, I'd love to meet you. I share your passion - I have a degree in Interior Design and worked in the field in Chicago before moving down here and raising a family, blah, blah, blah :)

I recently started a blog and one of the number one things I want to do wtih my blog is to do a weekly feature where I tour a local home. I have done one home so far. I have tohers scheduled too. I would love any advice you could give me on how to hook people inot wanting me to come to their homes and feature them on my blog. I am hoping that eventually I won't have to ask people, and that they will be coming to me and asking me! BTW you are hillarious! The blog is awesome. I will be a regular follower from now on!

    1. Hi, Nicki! Welcome to the cra-cra! What is your blog so I can adequately stalk you?
I started featuring my friend's homes and it spread from there. You could also feature "Open Houses" in your community.
      Thanks for coming by!

  14. I'm a bit late here too, but I have to say I was so excited when I discovered what your blog is about. I absolutely love houses. I scored a 10 and would be higher, but I am not very good at decorating ;). My guilty pleasure is going on real estate sites to see what is out there and I also get the real estate magazines when out of town. On walks I am terrified that I am going to be picked up as a peeping tom! Also an expert at dodging questions at open houses and while viewing model homes. I adore your sense of humor and look forward to reading more and seeing more HOUSES!

  17. Umm I answered yes to everyone of those questions ;) Two things you forgot to add or should I ask you..
    1. Do you redecorate your friends/families homes in your head whenever you go to their homes?
    2. Do you look up your local appraisal company to see what your neighbors homes or homes you like are appraised at? If yes, do you also look up your cities property taxes to see how much a house that interests you is worth and what the current owner paid for the house and weather or not they have a mortgage on the house and if so how much?
Umm yes I'm addicted to looking at houses LOL!
