House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

Houses Are Like Relationships, Day 6

I call this the "gold chains" relationship.  You know the one...Mr. Fancy sunglasses, gold chains, razzle dazzle car, hair gel, mirror checking, money talking, too tan fella with not enough buttons buttoned!

This is what I think of when I see a McMansion on a teeny-weeny lot.

(There is a place for McMansion lovers - just not on a teeny lot!)

I have questions.  What are you trying to prove?  Do you not want to be able to stroll through your yard without playing "How low can you go" to get between your house and your horrified neighbor's house?  Did you have lot envy as a child?

I decided to take my husbands advice and turn my attention to local houses that have completed renovations and additions that exemplify class and scale.

Here are some of the houses that fall into my classic Paul Newman category.  (As opposed to the Versace category)
Note the lot size is appropriate to the house size!

This beauty is actually for sale!

I love these windows!  Do not skimp on windows!

Love the staggered additions!

Please, thank you and I'm sorry.  And again, please don't sue me.

  1. Love these photos. Very tasteful.

  2. I've been in all those houses except the second one and they are fabulous!

  3. Well, Liz. You might have to be my field correspondent!

I live for comments, so please pop in and say "hello!"
