House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

Get Organized in 2012!

You might remember that I am a bit of a neat freak. So, when I see images of tidy closets, orderly pantries and organized garages, I swoon.

Being a neat freak as a mother of four can be...ahem...challenging. As far as I can tell, there are five essentials to maintaining some semblance of organization.

1. Everything has a place- even better if you can make it purdy.
2. Purge the junk on a regular basis and only keep the must-have items!
3. Make organization a daily priority- not a January 1-3 fantasy.
5. Whine Wine when you need it.

Keep items to a minimum and arrange them in a purdy fashion!

OR, hide the mess with doors and distract yourself with a purdy rug.

Everything has a place or chuck it in the trash, recycle it or donate it.

Sometimes, our sweet little children need that special place identified.

I put a silly picture of each of my children above their own hook.

At this very moment, my laundry room looks like the ugly stepsister to this laundry beauty.

Keep your drawers tidy! Junk drawer=too much junk in your trunk!

                     Use purdy containers to store
                pantry items.

I would run naked through the streets if my garage EVER looked like this.

I have let so many of my OCD orderly tendencies slide because life is busy and messy and fun and I don't want to miss out.  BUT, I still give it the old college try.

What say you?

  1. Oh, I soooo want to be organized. I try, I really do, but it starts out well and then something bad happens. It's a new year and I have new hope. We'll see...
    Happy New Year Kerry!

  2. Wonderful organization inspiration! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Oh I am with you. Sometimes it doesn't work out but I give it my best shot in indulging my OCD tendencies. The house is pretty much okay except for my closet and drawers right now. We are not in our real master bedroom yet since that is still being renovated so I don't have the best set up in our temporary room. Maybe I should organize tomorrow morning to start the year off right.

  4. Great post!!!! I need to get organized. I am featuring this at Grab my "featured" button.

  5. Thinking about getting organized makes me feel so excited! I am brimming with ideas and enthusiasm this time every year. I think my first project will be the closet that serves as our bar and stores cookbooks, stereo equipment, and lots of miscellaneous items.

  6. Love the white Expedit used in the laundry room pic! Great storage system!

  7. I love this idea! This is a really neat blog...glad I discovered it. Now I need some more time to go back and read more. I'm a mom of 3 and need all the organizational help I can get!

  8. I am working on my pantry now. I find getting organized harder than it probably should be. Thanks for the encouragement.

  9. I love organizing things, but as always there are closets and drawers that slip through the cracks. Organizing is the top of the list for the weekend!

  10. I've always loved looking at magazines of organized homes or searching the web for those untouchable closets, bedrooms, kitchens. Oh, I'm already drooling just thinking about it. Recently I've gotten into an 'OH MY GOD I NEED TO ORGANIZE THIS WHOLE HOUSE' kick... so far, the coffee is doing me well. Thanks for the beautiful pictures and inspiration! Always a pleasure,

    This Happy Hut @
