House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

How To Add Color To Your Space...Turn 40!

Remember when I thought adding a few gray pillows was a walk on the wild side of color? Apparently, my "friends" did not agree.

During my surprise 40th birthday party, (See Forty-licious!) my friends were all "Happy Birthday!"
But, the next day, I took stock of my loot gifts.
Several things struck me:
- My friends think I need a lot of booze.
- My friends think I need to clean my house.
- My friends need to seek mental help.
- My friends are trying to sneak color into my life!

My bestie even admitted, "Well, you do need some color in your life!" (eerily similar to my mother's "you just need a little lipstick, dear!")
So...here is my living room in living color.
This frame holds my favorite all time picture of my kiddos. My second born son wanted to hold the baby for the picture but of course, I asked the responsible first born prince. We have had lots of laughs creating thought bubbles for this picture...want to give it a go?

That's right. I'm going W-I-L-D with color!

Thank you, oh colorful friends of mine, for a very colorful birthday!

  2. I love everything about your living room. It's so fresh and crisp. I do like the additional of a little bright color here and there, though. I envy your grown up house. My home is furnished like we're 20-somethings; lots of hand-me-down, mismatched furniture, plenty of evidence of Ikea, and the only piece of furniture that we bought for this house is the kitchen table.

  3. LOL - this totally cracks me up. My husband always says our house looks like we live in a warehouse because I won't go crazy with colour. I keep insisting it is sophisticated neutrals. I wonder who's right. :)

  4. I have to agree, I love everything about your living room. Oh how I wish I could have a white room but with a 6 year old, just not happening!

  5. Love the big turquoise jug, jar, urn or whatever it is. One of my favorite colors. Of course, the booze is always welcome, and I'd say, you have some swell friends!

  6. Happy Birthday! LOVE all your pops of turquoise. Pretty! You could use a few pops of pink and yellow in that room. All that white scares me! I do have a toddler though, who LOVES to destroy anything pretty. I avoid white anything at all costs!

  8. Loving that stink eye glare! Truly deserving of a full 12 letter "laugh out loud" ... not that stinky old 3 letter abbreve ...

  9. Your living room is beautiful!! Love the pops of color. Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday surrounded by fabulous friends. Had to giggle ....I have a similar photo of my three sons with my oldest having the same stink eye glare aimed at me...I put hairspray on his hair to hold it in place so I could have at least one photo with all their hair under control. ;)

  10. Well, you are a little "white." And an all-white room with four kids? You have some chutzpuh.

  15. I have to tell you, Molly just saw the last couple pictures of your living room, Kerry, and she said, "They have a cool house!" Then she said, "I'd like a room like that but with everything in it all different colors, instead of white." ;)

  17. You have a lovely house. Personally I love color but I think maybe it is because I live in the mountains where it is snowy white 9 months out of the year -- Plenty of white outside my windows, plenty of color inside the walls :)

  20. It s gorgeous with or "without" color! I find it funny what we get for gifts - it just might say quite a lot about what people think we need.
