House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

Let Your Little Rug Shine!

In case you are new here, I am a big ole color chicken.
I pretend that I am all about the white, white, white.
The truth is- I am afraid of color and I am addicted to Oxy Clean. I have four active (that is code for "messy") children and a new puppy.
Everything needs to be "bleach worthy". I soak the s*** out of slipcovers, pillows, clothes, rugs and linens. Heck, I would soak my kids in Oxy Clean if I wouldn't get arrested.

I am considering adding a pop of color with a rug. Yep, really going to go wild.
A rug intervention. A rug transformation!
Just a smallish rug in my entry. Something that says "FUUUUUUUN!"
My current entry rug is on this order:

BORING! BLAH!

When I featured "The Hobbs Mystery", I fell in love with the runner on her stairs. Remember this:

I am drooling dreaming of something similar.
Maybe a widdle something like this:

Or, maybe this:

Do you know what all of these rugs have in common? They are all Dash and Albert rugs. I happen to looove Dash and Albert rugs.
Even if I saved all my pennies, could I justify exposing my Dash and Albert lovelies to the whirlwind that is my home? Dash and Albert would be exposed to cleats, dog hair, coffee dribbles, and worse!
I know that my pals at Checkered Moon could hook me up - I have spied their stash.
I am one cocktail away from making a bad decision.
If you are reading this and you are married to me, my 40th birthday is in three days.

  3. LOVE the Dash and Albert rug colors! My favorite for your door is the floral.....goes nice with white! I'm remodeling our family room which is now red, green and cream (very traditional). I'm going for HUGE color with blues, greens, oranges and yellows! So excited! Good luck with your little spark of color!

  5. The little store here that has Dash & Albert is only upen on Friday & Saturday, and even then they jsut kind of pop in and out, which I find INCREDIBLY annoying. HOWEVER, I will put up with teir nonsense just to see their rug samples. My problem is that we have tiger wood floors, so they already have a lot of color and I don't want to compete. But I do love these rugs! And I have some bedroom carpet that will have to go eventually!

  7. Hi - I'm new to your blog. I really like it! I must say I really like the white. It's so fresh and clean and soothing. I would love to have these colors in my house, but in the interest of preserving the peace, I usually end up compromising with my hubby, who has no fear of color (and I swear is color blind and can always pick out the shades that clash the most) and always wants to paint my rooms some garish color. Good luck on finding a splash of color for your rug. I'm sure it will coordinate nicely with the rest of your house.

  9. Oh do it. I think it would be fabulous. Our kitchen counters have a colour in it that looks like a dried coffee ring, the kind my husband leaves around all the time, but you can't tell. It blends right in. Maybe you can find a carpet that has hints of cleat dirt and coffee dribbles. :) Good luck - can't wait to see what you decide on.
