House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

In Defense Of White...

If you have been hanging out here for very long, you will know that I love white. LOVE.IT.
I have four kiddos and a new puppy...and I still love white.
Two words, people: bleach worthy.
Everything must pass the "is it bleach worthy?" test.
Contrary to popular opinion, white has a wide range of styles.
White can be all sleek and clean lines.
White can be all lace and shabby chic.
White can be all Zen and serene.
This is for all of you haters of white out there.

White: love it or hate it?  What say you?

  1. Oh, no...I love white! In fact, back in the day when I used to have to rip our pages from magazines instead of Pinterest and Houzz taking that responsibility upon themselves, most of them were full of white--light, soft white. In fact, I love the rooms above, except for the bottom one. But I know my limitations. So I "do" pastels and darker neutrals like taupe and beige. But I say--if you are brave enough to 'do' white with for kids? You da MAN!

  5. Love white in other people's homes, hate white in mine. We have 2 dogs, 3 cats and a messy husband. :) Perhaps I should add a woman who has had enough of cleaning too.

  6. I love these gorgeous white images and ideas! I usually prefer to have a bit of colour in my decorating but I am really drawn to the serenity and calmness of that bedroom!

    Best wishes,

  7. If white is for pictures only...I have to admit its beautiful...but the stress levels of keeping white white...is sooo not worth it...I want my house to be lived in and having white things would do nothing but make me yell, feet off, no food, sit on the floor, you cant put that there, stop breathing, you cant live here with that mess-get out! ha! But Im glad you can pull it off...we need pictures to look at!

    1. "Stop breathing" - love it! I'll have to try that! I have doggie pawprints on my couch right now that I'm trying to ignore!

  8. Oh, I LOOOVE white! Just NOT over here! In another life where I own my own gorgeous little shabby chic cottage and have NOOOOO other living creature besides, perhaps, a Persian (white, of course) cat, I would gladly embrace the pristine color (or lack thereof.) For now, I'll just keep in mind that my housemate cannot even keep the pale grey carpet clean. (Think Pigpen from the Peanuts cartoons!) White? Huh-uh.

  10. Okay, okay. Gimme the black floor and charcoal grey countertops, and I could roll with it. ;)

  12. I love white! I think it is easy to keep up with white furniture with 3 kids still at home..3 dogs and 2 cats. At least I always know my house is clean and just doesn't look clean because the dirt is hidden!
