House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

One Desk, Three Looks

I have good friends. The kind of friends with good taste and generous hearts. The kind of friends that just tonight sent me a text from across the room that read "You are a poor dresser." I think she meant to write "You are a sexy dresser" but whatever. (I may or may not have shown up at a neighbor's house in my pj's)
One such friend gave me this desk. I love everything about it- the top down or up feature, the chunky, curvy legs like my own, and the detailing.
Here is a lookiloo at three different wardrobe changes.
                                                           The beachy version:

The Vintage meets Shabby Chic version:

                                                     The Glam version:

I have decorating ADHD and like to change things up on a psychotic regular basis.
What say you- which do you like best?

  1. I am definitely the "Vintage meets Shabby Chic" version...as I have "Pride and Prejudice" playing in the background as I work. --Erin M. (not one of the friends with good taste, though)

    1. Oh, Erin. That sounds dreamy! "He's bugging me" and "Can I puh-lease have a snack?!?" are playing in the background as I work!

  2. Where's the "Covered with week-old mail and kitty pawprints with a few dustbunnies thrown in for good measure" look? Because that's the one that would go best with my decor.

  3. I love all three looks. Just LOVE the desk overall. Two levels, lots of cubbies, chunky, curvy legs. I think I have desk envy.

  8. All the looks are nice, but I like the Shabby Chic meets Vintage look. Good balance there with the tall candlestick and the beautiful picture.

  9. I am a NEW blogger - and I love all the looks. At first I liked the light reflected in from the mirror over the desk, but when I read an older post and saw the room as a whole, the picture adds great texture and warmth to the room.

  10. I vote for the Shabby chi, mostly because the top is open and you can see all the cute little drawers and whatnot!

  12. What you have is a spinet desk...may be mahogany under the paint probably from the early 20th century...I've wanted one for a long time.

    1. A "spinet desk"! Great to know! Thank you so much for solving that mystery. AND, it is indeed mahogany! You are the furniture whisperer!

  13. The second version is my fave - I like the seeing the inside slots of the desk. (Does that just make me nosy?)

  14. I like both 2 and 3 a lot. If I were you, I would probably regularly switch between those two looks. My husband and I seem to change something about our house regularly. Even if it's just moving future around, it gives it a new feel.

I would love if you linked this post up to the Take it on Tuesday blog hop I'm hosting!
