House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

Bringing A Beach House To Anytown, USA!

Thank you so much to Gina Luker for inviting me to guest post at her fantastic blog, The Shabby Creek Cottage!

This is the time of year that I start dreaming of a summer home on the beach! Since a real beach house isn't going to happen unless I rob a bank anytime soon for me, I thought I would share ways to bring the beach to Anytown, USA!
Unless you really do live in a beach house, you are probably making the big switch-a-roo from winter house to summer house while maintaining the same address!
No one brings the beach to the prairie like my gal pal, Tracy! She finally answered her door invited me for a midwestern house tour...beach style!

FROM WOOL TO COTTON:

If we are going to stand at the sink for 2,872 hours each summer, shouldn't we have purdy shells to remind us of the beach that we will someday live on?

From the dining room to the patio:

From winter coats to towels and goggles:

From the stovetop to the grill:

Use purdy containers next to your entryway for your summer necessities!

Jazz up your old photo frames by unleashing your children with a hot glue gun and shells from a trip to the craft store beach.
This is the perfect time to walk through your house with left over paint and touch up those snot scuff marks on the walls!

From fancy wine glasses to out of the bottle plastic cups:

If you have worked as hard as I have this winter, you will also be bikini ready!
From flab to fab:
Just look at me, now!

I hope this tour inspires you to transform wherever you call home into a vacation home!

  1. Here from Redoux - I'm so excited to have found your blog because you're killin' me :) I love your header/title bar thing with you climbing over the fence. So, do you really think I can paint over snot...because that would be a lot easier than chiseling it off the walls. Tracy's home is gorgeous, thanks for sharing. Congrats on guest posting over at Shabby Creek - that's awesome! Off to check it out!

If you find a flesh colored leotard, you must let me know- I need something goofy for the #Bloggersdance.
      Thank you, Debra!

  5. Great idea! I have a fantasy beach house in my head, it's all modern, clean lines with no clutter, no toys, possibly no kids allowed at all!

  9. I love the beach look, but don't have any coral. I really want some, but don't know where to get it affordably. (We live nowhere near a beach, by the way) Any ideas?

    1. I love the beach look, too! Most craft stores will sell individual or bags of shells. Do you have a Hobby Lobby?
      Thank you for popping by!

    2. You can also try looking in the pet section of any walmarts or kmarts. Or go right to a petsmart, pet depot etc. In the fish section they should have coral for the fish tanks. The "faux" coral can be painted any color you want.

Kerry, cute post. I do live at the Jersey Shore and I amp up the beachyness of my house and outside when spring hits. Its a time to lighten up, less fuss, get up and go kind of decorate. Love it!!

  10. I have a bathroom that is my beach bathroom. I started with a bright Bermuda building blue and went from there. White beadboard and beach watercolor prints. I love it. And you are right being at the beach is a state of mind.

  12. I think I have written down no less than 12 things I'm going to purchase, arrange or display tomorrow!! I can't wait til morning! I have the wreath in the first picture and love th idea of tying a colorful ribbon to it!! And I was JUST planning to buy some hooks for the boys to hang their backpacks on instead of tossing them by the couch. Now I can get them for that purpose AND make them our towel/goggle hooks for the summer!! Yay! You're the best!!

  14. What an absolutely beautiful home!.. I Live about 15 minutes away from Myrtle Beach but I am in the country..I love decorating with shells. It reminds me of when I was little, we would go to the 'shore' every year as a family and each day when the sun would start to go down before we'd head back to the condo my mom and i would walk the beach collecting shells :) Loved this post :)

  15. I needed a chuckle today! Thanks for bringing the funny. Every time. Yeah we just moved so we didn't have to deal with the snot marks on the wall any more. Hehe. I mean scuff marks. My kids plus hit glue gun equals chaos or fire trucks.
