House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

A "Back To School" Party For Moms!

*Have your children gone back to school, yet?

My son said it best: "Going back to school is happy and sad at the same time. Sad that summer has ended but happy to start a new year."
Guess what, kid? I feel the same way.
Our neighborhood rocks summertime.
Our kiddos spend their summer in and out of each other's homes, running through sprinklers, cheering each other on at baseball games, hosting lemonade stands, and playing "Ghost in the Graveyard" at night.
My pals and I watch from front yard adirondacks or a sunroom or a front stoop. Whether we have been home all day or are just returning from "work", we usually find time for happy hour to chat for a bit.
Our dining rooms have been highjacked my small people in swimsuits:
 School started last week.
Yes, it was sad to see summer end.
Yes, we miss our little darlings.
Yes, we partied.
Here is a lookiloo at our "Back To School" tablescape...

That's right. Not a sippy cup in sight and not once did I say "Don't put that up your nose, please."
(Dining room of gal pal and "Moffice-mate", Jill.)

  1. Awesome! Small people in swimsuits- loved that! Cheers To School-- and those Teachers for teaching our little boogers..and for giving us Moms a well deserved break! Cheers to That!

    1. If we didn't have the school year, summer wouldn't be so special...right?

  2. love the dining room!!

  3. Impressive, especially considering our conversation as you were trying to set the table:
You: "Where are your nice plates? Like the ones when you have people over...the ones you got for your wedding?"
Me: "You mean the extra thick paper plates? Top shelf."
Seriously, you had zero to work with when setting this up. Don't know how you do it.

    1. Bwahahaha! I laughed about that all day!

  5. Simply the best...

    Love it.

    Greetings from a chilly Stockholm,

    1. Stockholm?? Wow, you are my first Stockholm reader!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. hmmm--- how does one play "ghost in the graveyard"?

    1. WHAT? You've never played "ghost in the graveyard"?

    2. Nope!! But sounds like a ball -- a ghost ball!

  7. Hi Kerry!!!

I felt the same way when my kids went back to school. All day long the neighborhood was so alive and now that all the kids are back in school, it's so quiet.

I love the picture of the cat...Hilarious!!!!!

    The table looks so inviting.

    Have a great weekend!!

    1. I look forward to the quiet but in reality, it stinks!
      Thanks, Pam!

  10. Just thought I would share: when our kids were in school, the Moms in our development decided to have a Mom's getaway weekend, at the beach, after the kids went back to school. It usually was the first weekend in Oct. WE STILL DO IT, 30 some years later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But now it has grown to 4-5 days!!!! We love this tradition and this year is the FIRST year I can not go:(:(:( YOu guys should start a new tradition for yourselves:):)

    1. I love that! Have you ever written about it? I would love to share it on "That's What She Said" page!

  11. For the love of all that is holy, why do you not have your own show on HGTV yet?! Your tablescapes and parties and stories are THE BEST! Seriously. Who do we know that can make this happen?

I live for comments, so please pop in and say "hello!"
