House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

The House That Wasn't Meant To Be

Remember "The One That Got Away" house? Well, guess what? The lovely new homeowners granted me a tour!
This is "The One That Got Away" in so many ways. It really was like the old boyfriend syndrome. For years after the breakup, you might see him as "the one that got away." Then, you see him out and about with his new girlfriend. You see that he was clearly meant to be with her. More importantly, you are also in love with the one you are meant to be with. Everybody wins.
That is how I felt when the new homeowner, Vickie walked me through this house that I had so coveted. It was meant to be her house.
It was so different than I remembered. It had been empty on all of my 96 previous tours. Now, it holds her family and all of the things that make it a home for them.

Vickie and her family have brought life back into this family home. For the first fall in three years, pumpkins graced the front stoop, again.
I had an early peek at the renovations. I swooned at the new mudroom!
This house has the center hall, open staircase layout that I love.
Come on in!

The kitchen got a total makeover!
The "No Whining" sign might be my favorite addition to this house!

The downstairs powder room was updated, yet maintained a vintage feel by incorporating a vintage mirror and traditional materials.
Upstairs we go!

The upstairs bathroom BEFORE & AFTER!

I'm moving this house from "The One That Got Away" file to the "The One That Wasn't Meant To Be" file.

  2. I seriously need to deck out our mudroom! That one is awesome, and now that it's hat and coat weather, I'm feeling the lack when my kids hats are on the dining room table!

Best one-that-got-away blog, I totally know how you feel!

Thanks to the homeowners and you for sharing the house tour. Looks like they made some very lovely choices in order to make the house "theirs".

    1. Showing my true psychosis, huh? I only knew this because I bike by this house everyday and it had sat empty for so long.
      Thanks, Laura!

    1. Watching all the work that they have put into this home has been so fun. We would not have been in a position to do all of these renovations. One more reason that it was meant to be her home!
      Thanks, Pam!
