Remember the battle of the breezeway? In case you forgot, here is the recap.
My friend, journalist, and fellow house nut, Julie had a breezeway that looked like this:

Karen came up with an affordable design for the breezeway and we embarked on a road trip to IKEA. Tensions ran high when Julie couldn't make a freaking decision.

Several pals joined us for an "assembly party!"
Next...life happened. Between vacations, work, illnesses and general life chaos, the breezeway took a backseat. Seasons passed and the breezeway waited...and waited...and waited.
Fall arrived and Karen called us all to attention. Because we fear respect Karen, we all pitched in for the last push. Counters were installed, walls were painted, paint was spilled, floors were stained, lights installed and pillows were fluffed.
Here is a lookiloo at the breezeway FINALE!
The only request that Julie's husband made (husband and wife are both journalists) was to keep the newspaper machine. It became the color inspiration for the entire room. The bench provides a seat to pull on ice skates, cleats or winter boots. It also provides storage to hide clutter!
There may or may not have been a fist fight over this lamp.
Julie and Karen found an indoor/outdoor rug to add some patten to the space. Julie's brother in law put in many hours stripping and staining the cement floor. The countertop will be a fantastic work space for the kids, a buffet for parties or a bar for Julie's loyal and deserving pals.
Julie's sister surprised her with this moravian star light fixture.
At the end of this process, it has been fun to look back at all of the shenanigans that went into it. It was truly a group effort. A group effort of friends and family that love Julie and her family. Friends and family that were eager to give back to a friend that gives so much to everyone else.

It looks sooo good!! The light fixture is my favorite part!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say that I have only ever heard my grandma (who is from Wisconsin) call it a "Breezeway" so I am guessing you must be in the midwest somewhere. Bizzarro little fact.. Frank Lloyd Wright is the architect to invent the breezeway and hence the name sticking in the midwest. I have lived on each coast and everyone around here calls them "porches" or "mudrooms"
Okay..enough babbling about breezeways! Yours (whatever it is!) looks FANTASTIC!
