House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

A Look Back At 2013

2013 was a whirlwind! As I pulled up my most viewed posts for 2013, I kept thinking, "Wow, I need to exercise more a lot happened in 2013!"
Here is a look back at 2013...
The women in my neighborhood formed a mom office- The Moffice!
I learned about "Shakey Face" with some of my favorite bloggers at the BlogHer Conference.
I left my heart in Haiti.
I braved the stage at Listen To Your Mother and lived to tell about it.
I joined some muthafunny women to bring you two anthologies- I Just Want To Pee Alone and You Have Lipstick On Your Teeth.
I stalked admired my favorite local houses.
I bribed my friends to let me share their homes with you.
My moffice-mates became my sho-conspirators to bring a live show for and about women called That's What She Said.
I wrapped up the year with some Elf On The Shelf shenanigans.
The common thread throughout all of these moments? Amazing people. I have been blessed with so many talented, generous, funny, kind, supportive, and adventurous people. My cup runneth over.
Thank you for taking this wild ride with me.

Get Schooled- BlogU Conference!

I'm going to "GET SCHOOLED!"
Mark your calendars for June 6-8, 2014. Go right now. I'll wait.
BlogU Conference will focus on writing skills, publishing, social media networking, monetizing and content.
Let's talk "faculty," shall we?  THESE WOMEN are the badass writers that we have come to know from their books, blogs and/or speaking engagements. They cover all the hot topics- DIY, family, humor, lifestyle, and current events! I don't want to creep them out or anything, but I know and love every single one of these women. I am so excited to have a slumber party team up with them and hear their words of wisdom!
That's right. They are letting the riffraff in! I will be on the BlogU faculty to help "school you!"
Tickets go on sale in January. Just because you are hopped up on too much fruitcake, don't forget to register!

A House Tour And New Memory Making

Remember when this house was for sale and I stalked admired it shamelessly?
I am so happy to report that this wonderful family home has a new family! Dr. Maria Horvat and her family have renovated this house and made it their own. I suspect that if the whole doctor thing doesn't work out, Maria has a career waiting as a designer!
The living room is still being renovated, but I nabbed a few sneak peeks!

The living room leads through a sitting area, into the family room.

There are so many cozy spots in this home. Maybe, I could be the official house stalker sitter?
Brace yourself. I almost blew a gasket when I saw the renovated kitchen. Dr. Horvat may or may not have performed CPR on me.

From the gorgeous counters to the open layout to the stainless steel appliances- the kitchen is totally swoon worthy!

I love a house with a circular flow for parties families to romp through. The kitchen leads back to the front of the house- the dining room!
As you can see, light pours into this south facing home. Every room is so bright and cheery!
Speaking of lighting, let's talk light fixtures. Holy gorgeous. Many of the original fixtures remain but several new lighting updates fit perfectly.

The upstairs is open and flows seamlessly through four bedrooms.

Buddy the dog was a very gracious host!

See? There are plenty of cozy spaces for me to visit!
I know that the previous longterm owners have so many memories of a driveway full of boys playing basketball. It does the heart good to see such a great new family, carrying on a neighborhood tradition.
Thank you to Dr. Horvat for the tour but especially, for breathing life back into this gem.

*Update: this house is now for sale. Won't you be my neighbor? For the listing and more pictures, click here!

Speaking In Code

My mother reads this blog so I will speak in code. I'm giving advice on the "horizontal bop" In The Powder Room today. (My mom thinks the "horizontal bop" is a dance from the 50's!)
I can say no more. Just meet me In The Powder Room. Shhh...Go!
While I am already embarrassed, you might as well find out what the heck this picture is all about...HERE.
