House TalkN is a fun lookiloo at houses, houses, houses. It will answer pressing questions like, "When folks build a McMansion on a small lot, what are they compensating for?" or "Was the real estate agent drunk when they staged this house?" or "Why don't the Smiths' ever leave their drapes open when I am on a harmless walk-by?"

Friendship, Telling It Like It Is

I hate the phrase, "Telling it like it is." When someone says they "tell it like it is," I usually assume that means that they are rude and don't care. "I tell it like it is" is usually the follow up to a mean spirited comment.
But, we all need people in our lives who aren't afraid to "tell it like it is." I happen to have several of those people in my life. I've had a lifelong arrangement with my sisters. I have built friendships with people who- from a place of love *cough cough,* can put me in my place in a hot second.
I'm In The Powder Room sharing one of my most unflattering moments. A friend may or may not have said, "Stop acting like an a-hole." I may or may not have been acting like an a-hole. Either way, I am grateful for loved ones who "tell it like it is."
How about you? Do you have someone to sound the A-hole Alarm?

What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?

Are you livin' the dream? When you think about your childhood dreams, do you think, "What the &^%* was I thinking?" or "I always knew I would be a ----!" or "I wish I had followed that dream?"
Once I gave up the dream of being a truck driver, I set my sights on being a cast member of SNL. I wanted to be part of anything that could make my parents laugh until they fell on the floor. (Wait, maybe booze were involved?)
My siblings and I had built in material with a mom like this:

I still pretend that I am on SNL...I have friends that some might call "enablers." If "Schweddy Balls" and "Martha Stewart's Dickie" had a baby, it would be this:

Meet me In The Powder Room today and tell me your childhood dreams.

"How To Be The Perfect Mother"

*I am running this oldie but goodie today because I've been beaten down by thinking about parenting. Parenting is not for wussies and I'm talking about it In The Powder Room today. Come hold my hand and pat my hair, ok?

Hello, Fans of HouseTalkN!

My name is Katy Morgan from waaaaay over here at See that woman with the stringy hair and bags under her eyes who looks like she could use a good shower? See how she's all in the fetal position and screaming, "I just want to pee by myself!" Yeah. That's me. I'm a stay-at-home mom.

And despite my disheveled appearance and my obvious need for medication, I pretty much have this mommy thing pegged. In fact, in a very short 2 1/2 years, I have achieved the honor of a self-proclaimed parenting expert.

The following video is a bit of knowledge I'd like to impart to the world entitled: "How to be a Perfect Mother" - from someone who truly knows.

So, if you ever need to feel better about your own parenting skills, stop in sometime and visit me at Just please make sure you let me know you're coming. I might need to put on a bra first.

Love and laughter,

Katy Morgan

Stand Up To Cancer

Today is World Cancer Day. I am honored to "stand up to cancer" and share some badass women.
A few weeks ago, my soccer league had a party for one of our own- Lara Handsfield of (You can read more about it HERE) It was inspiring and humbling to see so many women who battle on the soccer field take a swing at the cancer pinata.

My buddy, Wendy Nielsen asked her friends and family to share the names of people they are "standing up for." My moffice-mates were proud to stand up.
Jill Youse is standing up.
 I am standing up.
Anni Poppen is standing up.
 Wendy Nielsen is standing up.
Who are you standing up for?

When our friend had a melanoma scare, we decided to help in the only way we knew- with humor.
